It's the classic story: boy (Will Friedle of Boy Meets World) meets girl after she eludes Secret Service, boy asks girl to high school dance, boy and girl nearly topple presidential administration. Most of this 89-minute made-for-TV movie takes place on the evening of the date, during which the young couple never actually make it to the dance, but do go on a shopping spree, watch his dad's company car get stolen, get in a fight with some rednecks, put on a magic show at a pool hall, and attend an anti-presidential protest. Dabney Coleman plays her presidential dad and Jay Thomas plays his father, who despite their political differences team up to find their wayward offspring. Part Mel Brooks madcap, part Roman Holiday for the younger set, this Disney offering manages to keep up a lively pace with some sly turns and humor that doesn't condescend.
